In December 2021, New Destiny launched the Emergency Housing Voucher Housing Navigator Program (EHVHNP) to provide housing search assistance to up to 1,168 domestic violence survivors who are prioritized for federal Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV) through the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence. Through this program, Housing Navigators assist survivors who have an EHV with identifying, applying for, leasing, and moving into units. Housing Navigators work with survivors to identify appropriate units based on safety, affordability, and family size that are provided by reputable landlords. Housing Navigators also assist survivors port their vouchers if they wish to move to a new region as well as facilitate the use of the vouchers for survivors who can safely remain in their homes.
With a generous grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, the program offers light touch aftercare services to ensure survivors receive timely assistance, referrals to resources in their new community and are able to maintain stability in their new homes.
