Rights of Federally-Assisted Residents during the Government Shutdown

The National Housing Law Project has put together an overview of the impact of the shutdown on tenants in the various federally-assisted housing programs, including ways that service providers can speak with clients about their legal rights. While the current impact of the shutdown on tenants is small, the anxiety and confusion is significant. The memo notes that “if the shutdown continues past the end of February, the situation dramatically deteriorates due to nonpayments to almost all owners; NHLP will publish an additional legal memo on tenant’s rights if and when necessary.”
