STATEMENT BY FAMILY HOMELESSNESS COALITION

RE: BUDGET ADOPTION FY20

“On behalf of the Family Homelessness Coalition, we applaud Speaker Johnson and members of the City Council for prioritizing the needs of homeless children and families.  We are particularly pleased that the Adopted Budget for FY20 increases and baselines funding for 100 Bridging the Gap social workers in schools with high numbers of students living in family shelter.  In addition to the significant investment made to ensure educational outcome of students living in shelter, the City Council has invested approximately $13.1 million in Council Initiatives to improve the well-being of children and families living in shelter, protect the rights of renters at risk of homelessness, and other critical housing and homeless services.

“The Family Homelessness Coalition looks forward to continuing to work with the City Council to build on these investments and to make progress on necessary investments to address family homelessness in NYC.”
