Housing Access and Stability Services

HousingLink

HousingLink is a cost effective, innovative citywide program that prevents homelessness among households fleeing domestic violence. The program provides a continuum of services to prevent or reduce shelter use and support housing stability for low-income domestic violence survivors and their children. HousingLink is a collaboration with the New York City Family Justice Centers which are operated by the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence.

Offered at each of the five borough Family Justice Centers, HousingLink connects families fleeing domestic violence who are at risk of homelessness to quality, affordable rental units in privately owned buildings and informs individuals about their housing options. Since its launch in 2014, HousingLink has placed more than 250 survivors in safe, affordable and permanent homes.

HousingLink offers a continuum of services including:

  • Group orientations for domestic violence survivors who are clients at the Family Justice Centers. Orientations provide an overview on permanent housing options available in New York City including rental subsidy programs, barriers to securing an affordable apartment, and how to prepare a successful application for renting a private sector apartment
  • Individual counseling to identify and develop a plan for resolving challenges
  • Referrals to legal and vocational service providers
  • Aftercare to help households placed in housing remain stable.

 

Eligibility

Victims of domestic violence receiving services at the Family Justice Centers who need to move for their safety or, those who have fled their abusers but do not yet have adequate replacement housing may be eligible for HousingLink.
